I purchased after reading rave reviews and auditioning the demos on Waldorf's website. I have been into synths for many years now, as a professional user.

The user interface is not as 'knob endowed' as the other synths I own (Novation KS4, Alesis ION, Roland to name but a few), but it really is the most simple and user friendly interface I have come across, and is certainly the next best thing to a full knobby interface. After a quick browse at the manual, I was soon producing my favourite patches, I just love the fact that even simple detuned 'sawtooth' waves produce warm pads, and that's even before you start using the wavetables and samples!

All in all this synth is very inspiring, and offers something that most synths cannot achieve, keeping even the most seasoned synth programmer happy. Recommended!

When my friend suggested we had to check out the new Waldorf Blofeld, I have to admit that I didn't know whether we were off to a restaurant or going to try some new funky salad at Pizza Express! Surprise, surprise.. there we were in Anderton's keyboard dept. First things first, this pretty wild synth comes as a module or a 49 note keyboard with just under £250 separating the two. If you are looking for a compact keyboard, you need to know that the keyboard action and quality is one of the finest I have come across in its class since the days of the DX7! Carefully balanced along the whole length of the key. Sadly, at the moment, too may manufacturers feel they can get away with keyboard actions better suited to Arnold Schwarzenegger. So, on to the controls... this synth comes with a simple LCD display - its small but clear enough and uncluttered for editing parameters, graphical display of ADSR etc. All rotary controls are of the same high quality with two knobs dedicated to menu functions, four more for fine parameter tweaking, one notched for program selection and another for volume. The illuminated buttons provide access to all the essential functions such as octave up/down. To round off, the whole thing is cased in nuke resistant steel. Now before you think.. this guy has shares in Waldorf, go and try it and prove me wrong.. go on.
