Epiphone Les Paul Standard

Everybody knows the Gibson Les Paul is one of the coolest guitars in the world (the universe even!) - but not everybody can afford one! The Epiphone Les Paul is an excellent lower cost alternative to the Gibson Les Paul, & you know when you buy an Epiphone you're getting an official licenced copy of the real thing.

That's because Gibson own Epiphone & that's why Epiphone guitars look so similar to the real thing & also come with proper Gibson designed pickups.

We're not trying to say that an Epiphone Les Paul is as good as a Gibson, but they do represent excellent value for money & we think they make better Gibson copies than anyone else does!

The Epiphone Les Paul Standard features a set neck (just like the Gibson version) - this means the neck is glued into the joint (rather than bolted on like a Fender Strat), and this gives the guitar greater sustain. The two Gibson designed humbuckers are also pretty meaty - they'll drive your amp hard & give you great distortion & even more sustain. For a classic looking/sounding guitar at a very reasonable price, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard is a great choice.

Here's what Epiphone say about the Les Paul Standard

Based on the Gibson industry standard, at home on any stage playing any style. Sunburst and translucent finished models feature a 'Plus' flamed maple top. Solid coloured models feature a plain maple top.

What can I say. A guitar of the highest standard that supercedes its price in value! The action is perfect (for me anyway, and from other reviewers... favourable to most).

At first I had some trouble getting the sound set up through my crappy line 6 amp, but I resolved this problem but routing it through a pedal and simply setting it to clean and using the multi effect pedal to do the work for me. What I have now is the best guitar I have ever owned. The treble/rhythm switch is situated in such a convenient place that you can flick between them without missing a beat and the tone and volume settings are tone and volume settings obviously.

Very versatile in sound. Can pull off Van Halen style OTT distortion, sex pistols punk fuzziness, green days fast and powerful fullness, indie crunch... I gave the thrash segment of "one" by metallica a whirl on it and it pulls it right off... and it must be so obvious that although its not an SG, its a les paul, it can pull off classic rock like AC/DC and hair metal... In fact, hair metal would probably be the guitars strongest sound if it had a whammy bar... but artificial harmonics do the trick :)

The guitar looks a LOT nicer than it does in the picture provided on here... I strongly suggest that its changed, because I had huge reservations about the horrific white scratch plate and was ready to perhaps try and see about getting a different colour/shape, but i'm eccentric with my high contrast colours, so thats really just conjecture... if you want an awesome guitar that sounds and plays like it cost 3-4 times the price... this is your baby! I bought this guitar to improve on my lead guitar skills having always been the acoustic/electric rhythmist, as a professional rhythm guitarist, 10/10... as an intermediate lead guitar player 10/10. Its worth the risk... trust me. and it comes earlier than it says on your tracker... mine still says it hasnt arrived and its sitting next to me right now begging to be played lol. I don't usually write reviews for products, but this baby deserves the love.

P.S - Be sure to have good cables and preferably a better amp than a line6, and you will probably spray fire from it :)

I Purchased the Epiphone Les Paul Standard for £289 on 20/8/11

I am so pleased for what i got for the price it was at.

The quality of the strings are perfect. The pick ups have the meaty sound I wanted for the type of music I play, which is rock. I am only 5ft tall and have no trouble with the weight or size of the neck.

Was worried about the action on the guitar as I've only learnt to play guitar this year. I could not believe how easy it was to play.

Still can't stop looking at it and want to play it all day.
