The Classic Player Jazzmaster Special guitar updates Fender's iconic Jazzmaster model with some thoroughly modern improvements, including hotter pickups, a redesigned Adjusto-Matic bridge with floating tremolo tailpiece, a 9.5 fingerboard radius and an improved neck pocket with increased back-angle for improved stability and sustain.

The tremolo plate has been moved closer to the bridge to increase break angle and sustain. A screw in tremolo arm increases stability and control when executing divebombs.

There are no bad things i can say about this guitar. It plays beautifully, with a wide flat neck, much like a strat, and looks very different to many guitars, which is why i have always liked the design. It sits very comfortably when playing, and is light compared to my other guitars, which is a welcome treat (although not as light as some other Fenders, such as teles).

The pickups are a perfect blend between the classic twangy sound Fender are known for, and the fatness of other guitars/pickups, such Gibsons, also being slightly hotter in output than previous Jazzmasters. This perfectly compliments my main amp, a Vox AC30, which is already quite trebly, and gives a great variety of tones, from blues to heavy rock, although i doubt it would be suitable for metal. The rhythm circuit is also a cool feature if you want a variety of sounds in a single song without having to adjust knobs.

The tremolo system is very stable too, allowing use without putting the guitar out of tune (unless you use it too hard). It is great for subtle vibrato, and pre-bending into chords.

I would certainly recommend this guitar to others looking for a versatile guitar for genres short of metal. It is particularly good for blues, surf and alt-rock. My main interests in music include Radiohead, Brand New, Incubus and Dinosaur Jr, all of which have used Jazzmasters, and blues artists such as BB King and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
