RICKENBACKER 330 in Fireglo Finish

One of the all time classics. There is no doubting that the Rickenbacker 330 & 330 12 String deserve their places in the Guitar Hall of Fame. Many of the classic jangly guitar sounds from the 60's (& beyond) are only possible to recreate with a Rickenbacker guitar. Rickenbacker are legendary for their back order problem! So limited is the output of their Californian factory, that most Rickenbacker orders take between 1-2 years (yes YEARS!) to turn up. Rickenbacker refuse to move or expand because they don't want to change anything about the way their guitars are made. Fair play to them!

Here's what Rickenbacker say about the 330 12 String

Careful acoustic research has resulted in the full, rich and warm sound of this popular model. Two single coil pickups on a full size body are accented by a traditionally shaped sound hole. The 24 fret Rosewood fingerboard is punctuated by dot inlay fret markers, with full double cutaways permitting access to all the frets. Standard output is monaural through a single jack plate.

For me the easiest way to accurately review this guitar is to compare it with the other quality guitars I curently own and have purchased from new - Fender Stratocaster and Gibson Les Paul. It is fair to say that all three guitars - Stratocaster, Les Paul and the 330 all have a unique instantly recognisable sound. At one end we have the Les Paul which I consider to be the master of the rock/blues solo. In the middle we have the Stratocaster which provides some versatility in soloing and accompaniment. The master of accompaniment has to be the Rickenbacker 330.

As a solo singer/guitarist and a singer/rhythm guitarist in a band I find the clean jingle jangle sound of a Rickenbacker 330 played through a Fender Twin awesome.

The meticulous attention given by Rickenbacker in setting up the guitar prior to dispatching from the factory is very apparent. The action is very low and consistant across the whole of the neck allowing effortless chord changes.

The body finish, particulary fireglow, is exceptional and the lacqued fingerboard enhances appearance and chord change speed. Compared with my other guitars the 330 is very light because it has a semi-hollowbody.

The case provided with the guitar is a very substantial and robust - certainly compared to my other guitars.

Overall, I would certainly recommend this guitar.

The only downside with this guitar and other Rickenbacker products in general is the very poor distribution network they provide. However I believe the guitar is well worth the wait!
