Bose L1 Compact Amplification PA System

The Bose L1 Compact is the latest addition to the excellent Bose L1 family. On the bigger Bose Model 1 & Model 2 systems, the bass bins are separate to the main speaker system, but in the L1 Compact the bass bin has been cleverly integrated into the stand. The L1 Compact is about half the power of the Model 1 & Model 2 system, but by using the excellent line array speaker technology, the L1 Compact system will still happily produce live music in small venue (typically up to a max of 100-150 people depending on the sort of noise you want to make!).

The line array technology used in all the Bose L1 systems ensures that the volume of the speaker doesn't drop off so much as you move further from the speaker. This means the overall volume of the system does not need to be that high to reach the back of the venue. The other advantage with the L1 systems is that you can stand in front of the speaker column, with your microphone & experience virtually zero feedback problems. So not only is the Bose L1 Compact the most portable system we know of, it also removes the need for separate stage monitoring too!

There are so many uses for the Bose L1 Compact. Whilst most people will use this as a small live PA system, it's also excellent as an acoustic guitar amp, a keyboard amp, an electronic drum amp*, and for presentations. (* please note that for electronic drums we would only recommend the L1 Compact as a home use or rehearsal amp). Because the L1 Compact can be set up at 3 different heights you can always have the speaker section exactly where you want it - floor level, waist level or head level. And with a simple 2 channel mixer (1 mic input + 1 guitar/line input) built into the stand, you may not need anything else to start using the Bose Compact L1 system!

We think the Bose L1 Compact looks great too - it really does look cool enough to have set up at home without being moaned at for making the place look untidy!

Super Portable - Great Sound - Easy to Use - Amazing Price. Nuff said!

Magazine reviews of the L1 Compact system

'..the L1 Compact is a no-brainer and is a very appealing purchase for any technophobe musician who requires affordability, portability, ease of use, reliability and amazing sound quality for small to intermediate size venues.'

Mark Tucker - Acoustic Magazine

'I liked the L1 Compact, I' m seriously thinking about buying a pair, and if you are in the market for a compact PA for smaller venues, I think you ought to get down to your local Bose dealer and take a long hard look at one.'

Bob Thomas - Performing Musician Magazine

Gives a wonderful sound, out of the box. No messy set up, lightweight and easy to travel. But you probably know all of that already.

I've actually got mine set up as the main audio system in my living room in it's collapsed state. I plug in an Airport Express and it streams music wirelessly from my Mac in the other room - it's a fantastic solution for a clutter-free home entertainment solution. Then when I need it for a performance or disco, I can take it with me and it performs excellently - I'm surprised at the clout this thing gives. I had many reviews stating they felt it needed an extra bass bin. In my experience so far, performances to groups between 50-100 it's been more than adequate.

I took advantage of interest free credit. Rang the shop twice for advice and found them very helpful. The equipment arrived within 24hrs and sets up in seconds. My band is a loud rock band and I needed the Bose for foldback. It's got plenty of volume, takes up less room, weighs next to nothing and the sound is crystal. The band has used the Bose for rehearsal putting electronic drums, accoustic guitar and vocals in and the sound is awesome. I know £900 is a lot of money but there's no hiding quality and the Bose is a quality bit of kit. Go on treat yourself !

The Bose Compact speakers have already transformed our

    Sunday Church service.

The guitar, keyboard and voices sound crystal clear throughout the school hall where we meet.

And setting up Church now only takes around 5 minutes.

    Highly recommended.

Amazing sound quality and ease of use. Love it. The sub adds so much to the sound of a solo singer/guitarist like myself and it's a very versatile set-up as you can change the height of the top speaker or just use it as a single unit like a standard acoustic amp. Everyone who has seen/heard me use it now wants one! Plenty loud enough for any pub/cafe gig and for bigger gigs you can DI out and use it as your personal monitor!

I'd wanted a Bose L1 system since I first heard about them. Having auditioned the L1 Mk. II at Andertons, I was blown away. Unfortunately, I didn't have the funds to purchase one, as I intended just to use it for acoustic guitar/vocal solo gigs and I already had invested in a full band PA. When I subsequently heard that Bose had released the L1 Compact, at a little more than 1/3 the price of the flagship system, I headed down to check it out. Same transparent sound reproduction, even easier setup; what's not to like? If you want absolutely clear sound, just the sound your guitar and voice produce with no colouration, and you want it to project all over the room for small-medium solo/duo gigs (it doesn't seem powerful enough for med-big shows), this is the one to beat. It can be carried from the car in one trip, the so-called 'set-up' takes about a minute (it actually takes me longer to set up my mic stand and mic!), and you don't need a monitor system. It even has a table-top option for real intimate gigs - I now use this for practice. For tone-tweakers, it's perhaps too basic a rig - no eq on the guitar channel, only bass & treble on the mic, no effects. But the sound is simply superb - so much so that I'm not missing the eq or reverb. It has even improved my playing, because there is nothing to hide behind - you hear everything, so I've had to tighten up my fingerpicking technique! I do have a concern, in that there are a lot of plastic bits that look breakable and I haven't gigged it hard yet, but I've heard that Bose's customer service is good, so I'm not unduly worried. All in all, I'm happy with my investment. I may even bring it to band practice and run my electric guitar through my Pandora, just to see how it fares against the pa/monitors for rehearsal...

I bought the L1 Compact to play in an acoustic duo format at pubs and functions, playing unplugged versions of current pop and rock numbers. So far the L1 has been great for the job and is plenty loud enough for the average pub venue. My set up is an acoustic guitar and a Telecaster running DI'd through a Boss looper and a number of effects pedals into the Tone Match and 2 x vocal mics. The sound quality and coverage is amazing. Perfect for the role, takes a few minutes to set up and is so light to carry. I can't find fault for the money. Brilliant bit of kit!

It is really very easy to set up - and the sound level is incredible. I use it in conferences to play both recorded music and live music. The acoustic guitar sounds superb with the tone match switched on.

It does what it says on the tin. A good buy.

Simply does what they claim it does straight out of the packet!

To date, I have run Pod XT (with Martin DM, Fender Tele-72, Ibanez AF75 and an old dobro) plus a senneheiser 85 and very impressed.

Will do first gig over the next couple of weeks and report back. First impressions: easy setup, clean well spread sound, good response and easy to store/transport. I was initally worried about bass response but my backing tracks (as much as I hate them) sound great.
