KickPort International Kick Port

The KickPort is a clever little device which slots into the hole in the front head of your bass drum and extends the low end coming from the drum. The video demo below shows you exactly what this does. It will allow you to really feel the beat of the kick, and when playing live, if you have a P.A. which extends down low (e.g. with a Subwoofer), this extended low end will be felt by the crowd as well. That feeling of the kick actually hitting your chest will be accentuated by the extra low end this seemingly innocuous piece of plastic provides!

The KickPort's Patented design enhances the sound of your kick drum by doing four things:

It ports the kick drum in the same manner as a bass reflex speaker cabinet which boosts low frequencies.
It adds ideal dampening directly to the resonant head which allows you to remove most if not all of the internal materials thus reclaiming all of the natural resonance and tone of your drum.
It focuses the air as it exits the kick drum and this compression increases punch.
It's tunable! Due to its broadband design, The KickPort improves the sound of bass drums sized 16" to 28." It can be tuned up or down by adjusting the tuning of the resonant head.

The overall result is more lows, more tone, better definition and more punch in varying acoustical environments. Additionally these are benefits the drummer can feel behind the kit.

Yes well I bought the Kickport on the strength of a recommendation by a professional drummer after I explained to him that I was looking to get a bit more 'punch' out of my 18" Gretsch bass drum.
Fitting it is a relatively simple process: I decided to remove skin, cut hole, fit the KP & then put the skin back on rather than fit it with skin on.
The KP does alter the sound,taking all the 'ring' out (just like gaffer tape does). As I haven't mic'd it up yet I can't really comment (sorry) but I imagine that it will send a bit more air directly to mic. Will let you know if it does do what it says on the tin!

i think these items are perhaps a bit overrated to be honest, i dont notice that much more low end, but i do need to play around with tunings a lot more still. they are good for the money however, and for studio recording i think it will make a difference. The items easy to install and comes with easy instructions to follow.

The single best drum related product I have ever purchased! Easy fitting, the provided self-adhesive template fixed my ropey hole cut in the kick resonant head, giving a nice clean and sturdy hole into which the Kickport fits easily and precisely. Once inserted, which took literally about 2 minutes, even tapping the head with my hand yielded a very deep soundwave, and I knew something was different. Almost immediately taking my kit into the studio, even the band noticed the look and definitely the sound as soon as I started playing. I removed all resonant head damping so it was just the Kickport, (I used extremely minimal damping anyway), and the sound is very deep, punchy and, well, pretty much the perfect kick sound, even when compared to the bext famous recordings I have. Quite simply a genius piece of kit, with a very neat and tidy design, looks great, sound the business and I will never play without one again!
Buy one, you will not regret it.
