Yamaha Pocketrak 2G Pocket Field Recorder
Pocketrak 2G - Yamaha Pocket Field Recorder
The Yamaha Pocketrak 2G is a tiny, incredibly lightweight recorder that sounds incredible. It has two high-quality microphones, 19 hours battery life, 2gb Flash memory and bundled Cubase AI4 software. It's like a dictaphone gone mad. Whether you're recording a band practice, a college lecture or a business meeting, Yamaha's Pocketrak is a great and unobtrusive way to capture everything.
Here's what Yamaha say about the Pocketrak 2G
There are so many compelling reasons to record band rehearsals or music lessons for later review that a portable recorder is an essential item. Recording conferences and meetings has become a matter of course too. Naturally, the smaller and lighter that recorder is, while delivering top-class sound quality, the better. Weighing only 49 grams complete with battery, the Yamaha POCKETRAK 2G Pocket Recorder is an unbeatable choice. It's only 13 millimeters thick and will slip unobtrusively into a shirt pocket. But this diminutive, lightweight package contains a large 2-gigabyte memory plus advanced digital audio technology that lets you record and playback with outstanding quality.
In addition to a CD-quality linear PCM recording mode that lets you record up to 3 hours of music, there are a number of MP3 modes that provide significantly longer recording times. The supplied long-lasting rechargeable battery can keep the POCKETRAK 2G running for up to 9 hours continuously when recording in MP3 mode. Slide out the built-in USB connector and connect the POCKETRAK directly to your computer to transfer files back and forth, and use the bundled CUBASE AI digital audio workstation software to edit and enhance your recordings with pro-level control.
If sound is important to you, there's simply no reason not to have a Yamaha POCKETRAK 2G Pocket recorder with you at all times.

Probably the best device on the market for the price for what I needed - on the fly recording of acoustic guitar ideas. Great gadget, easy to use, very impressive recording results (but haven't tried recording a live electric band). A little flimsy, but much more robust than the other product I was considering for the same price - plus it comes with a case. The included Cubase software looks interesting but haven't tried it yet. The on-line service from Andertons was first rate.

I'll start by telling you the reason I only awarded 4 stars and it has nothing to do with the quality of the Pocketrak. Simply that I wanted to listen to the recordings without the use of headphones or the small speaker that is built-in to the Pocketrak. In other words, I wanted to plug it into something a bit louder. That is where the problem lies. The output from the headphone socket just isn't high enough to drive an amplified speaker system. OK, that's my gripe finished. Now to the good points. It is stereo. You can plug in alternative stereo microphones if you wish. It comes with a leather wallet, which has a built-in microphone stand attachment with an adaptor for larger thread sizes. Also included are a USB lead (which you will need since the USB connector on the Pocketrak doesn't fit standard USB connectors very well) a set of high quality ear-phones, a comprehensive owner's manual and a rechargeable battery. The Pocketrak is as light as a feather and has 2GB of onboard memory and can hold just about anything you want to store. Powerpoint presentations, word documents etc. It records in WAV format and will playback MP3, if you decide to store any MP3 music files in it. I originally bought the Pocketrak because I wanted to record my guitar and singing. The recordings are note perfect and I can play along with the recordings which play back at the correct speed and pitch. Bum notes and all. If you need something more than a dictaphone, then this digital recorder is the one to go for.
