I'll start by telling you the reason I only awarded 4 stars and it has nothing to do with the quality of the Pocketrak. Simply that I wanted to listen to the recordings without the use of headphones or the small speaker that is built-in to the Pocketrak. In other words, I wanted to plug it into something a bit louder. That is where the problem lies. The output from the headphone socket just isn't high enough to drive an amplified speaker system. OK, that's my gripe finished.
Now to the good points. It is stereo. You can plug in alternative stereo microphones if you wish. It comes with a leather wallet, which has a built-in microphone stand attachment with an adaptor for larger thread sizes. Also included are a USB lead (which you will need since the USB connector on the Pocketrak doesn't fit standard USB connectors very well) a set of high quality ear-phones, a comprehensive owner's manual and a rechargeable battery. The Pocketrak is as light as a feather and has 2GB of onboard memory and can hold just about anything you want to store. Powerpoint presentations, word documents etc. It records in WAV format and will playback MP3, if you decide to store any MP3 music files in it. I originally bought the Pocketrak because I wanted to record my guitar and singing. The recordings are note perfect and I can play along with the recordings which play back at the correct speed and pitch. Bum notes and all.
If you need something more than a dictaphone, then this digital recorder is the one to go for.
