All too often monitoring vocals on stage is awkward. Whether a floor monitor is just too low or the vocal mix isn't quite right - it can be frustrating for a singer who simply wants to perform. The WPM-1 vocal monitor helps singers by providing greater control and positioning flexibility so the live mix is just right all the time.

The Wharfedale WPM-1 needn't just be for singers either. It sits on a normal mic stand so it can provide ear-level monitoring for any musician whether they be a drummer, keyboard player, guitarist or anything else. The WPM-1 is compact and features a thru output so you can manipulate the raw vocal without the front-of-house engineer touching it and send a completely untouched signal to FOH as well making the WPM-1 a versatile solution for any musician who requires a personal monitor mix.

Here's what Wharfedale say about the WPM-1

The WPM-1 from Wharfedale Pro is a personal monitoring solution with a number of great features that suit performers and artists who demand perfect monitor mixes and total control. A 5" full range driver is matched to the on-board processing, EQ and amplification to provide clear, natural and intelligible vocal foldback.

The WPM-1 can be stand mounted with straight or boom mic stands, alternatively the WPM-1 can be placed on the stage itself for maximum versatility. Front panel controls allow you to fine tune your onstage vocal sound and the integration of your monitor mix. With a WPM-1 you no longer get the monitor mix that your engineer supplies, you hear exactly what you want to hear.

The balanced microphone input has a through output so your performance can be seamlessly integrated into the front of house mix. The WPM-1 also includes an instrument/line level input and mix output, facilitating use as a small format personal mixer with 3 inputs. This versatile interfacing allows the WPM-1 to fit into the widest range of on stage situations.

The WPM-1 uses the same high tech gas assist injection moulding techniques as used in our famous Titan Series loudspeakers, ensuring road tough reliability and ultra light portability.

I decided to give this 'vocal' monitor a go for my solo act as I'm driving around in a small car nowadays and space for equipment is at a premium.

First up, it fit easily onto a spare mic stand.

Then it worked immediately when I connected it up to the phones output on my Dynacord mixer.

I have everything going directly into the PA (guitar processor, keyboard, vocals) which the speaker handled easily.

The sound was very clear, no crackles, distortion or feedback from the mic. It was very easy to work with. Just wish I'd got one sooner.
