The Shure SM58 unidirectional (cardioid) dynamic vocal microphone is designed for professional vocal use in live performance, sound reinforcement, and studio recording. It has a tailored vocal response for a sound which is a world standard for singing or speech. A highly effective, built-in spherical filter minimizes wind and breath "pop" noise. A cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source while minimizing unwanted background noise. Rugged construction, a proven shock-mount system, and a steel mesh grille ensure that even with rough handling, the SM58 will perform consistently, outdoors or indoors.

Wow. There's a reason this mic is labeled as industry leading. The sound quality is exceptional and it has great tonal balance with a range of treble down to bass depending on the angle of approach, so to speak. I wish it had an on/off switch but then I guess I should have bought that model in the first place. Very pleased and I have no doubt this will last me a lifetime.

Purchased 3 Shure SM58s for gigging & have not been disappointed. The only negative point is that there is no on/off switch on this model.

I was told that the SM58 was a legendary product, unchanged for 40 odd years. I can see why - this mic gives me a classic vocal sound that needs very little EQ'ing & it seems to be made extremely robustly - why change a great product. I know there are lots of other mics to choose from but if its good enough for just about every performer I can think of over the last 40 years, it's certainly good enough for me.
