Soundcraft EFX12 Mixer

Are you looking for a high quality live mixer from a reputable manufacturer that is fully featured and versatile? Well you're in the right place. Soundcraft are one of the big boys when it comes to live desks, and the EFX 12 has 12 channels all with mic pres, plus an additional 2 stereo channels and a stereo effects return. Each of the 12 main channels has an insert, 3 band EQ with parametric mid band and 2 auxes.

The second aux is routed to the onboard effects which are managed by another company well known for specialising in reverbs and other spatial/time effects: Lexicon. The desk has a built in 24 bit digital FX engine that has everything you need for the average gig from a selection of reverbs and delays with a flanger, phaser and tremolo thrown into the mix.

This desk will easily cope with small-medium ensembles, and with built in effects all you need to do is plug in and set your levels. Great for when time is tight and setting up external effects often gets forgotten to make way for other things!

Here's what Soundcraft say about the EFX12 Mixer

The Soundcraft EFX Series combines all the features of the popular Soundcraft EPM mixer with a built-in 24-bit, digital Lexicon effects processor, expanding the Soundcraft low-cost, multipurpose compact range.

The Soundcraft EFX mixer uses the same AudioDNA processor featured in many of the Digitech and Lexicon outboard equipment including the highly respected Lexicon MX400 processor. With over 35 years experience, the Lexicon name is synonymous with the best reverb and processing in the business, ensuring the finest quality effects not usually found in a console at this price level.

The Effects section fits neatly into the mixers compact framework which is available in 8 or 12 mono input variants, both with 2 stereo channels and an effects send on each channel. There are 32 effects to choose from with a tap tempo function, 3 effects parameter controls and a user effects setting store facility. An effects channel level clip LED and Mute function gives the user even more flexibility.

The emphasis with the Soundcraft EFX is very firmly on quality build and audio performance, with an easy to understand control surface in line with the Soundcraft professional range. The Soundcraft EFX uses the highly-transparent GB30 Mic amp (designed by Graham Blyth for the company's 30th anniversary, and also used on the larger LX7ii and GB Series professional consoles). The Soundcraft EFX also offers all the features of the Soundcraft EPM most notably a configurable aux send, XLR and 1/4" metal jack connector sockets, RCA phono stereo playback inputs and record outputs, 3-band EQ with a swept mid on the mono inputs, 3-band EQ on the 2 stereo inputs, TRS insert sockets, inserts on all mono inputs, ten-segment LED output metering and a headphone output.

I've not actually used this mixer yet in a full band situation but initial thoughts are that it's a great piece of kit! As a novice to the world of this kind of mixer I was a little daunted by all the knobs, buttons and sliders but on reading the manual (twice!) it all started to make sense. In the event, it's all quite straight forward once you get the hang of it. It will do much more than I think I'll ever really need but I bought it as a 'future proof' system and I'm very happy with it. Solidly built and everything works very smoothly with no 'sticky' areas on moveable parts. I had one query about the footswitch but Andertons have been helpful as ever and gave good advice. Unlike some mixers that are advertised as 12 channels (often maade up of stereo ones or they count xlr and jack inputs as two seperate ones) this mixer really does have the full compliment as adverised. Soundcraft have a good reputation, so do Andertons, and in this case they've worked really well together. I looked around for a better price (and failed!) and without exception, every review I read was positive. I've only used it in a duo/trio situation up to press but I think the band scenario will hold no problems. Recommended.

Very basic, which was exactly what I wanted. Very good - did exactly what it said on the tin. Excellent value for money.

The service provided by Andertons was first class and the staff very knowledgable and regarding the product i wished to purchase (Souncraft EFX12 Mixer) this is a very high spec mixer for not a lot of money, 12 actual channels + 2 stereo channels, high qaulity effects processor and so straight forward that even someone as technically inept as me can use it. The sound qaulity and tonal range is crystal clear, and as well as this it is a very compact easily rack mountable unit, this mixer is a must for studio or live use for musicians on a budget who still require high qaulity.
