Sennheiser Freeport FP35 Wireless Vocal System

The Sennheiser Freeport Wireless System offers a high quality UHF, multi channel wireless system at an incredible price. If you're not familiar with wireless jargon, here are the basics!
UHF stands for Ultra High Frequency - this refers to the type of radio wave that the wireless system transmits on. Older (& sometimes the new but very cheap) wireless systems are still using VHF (Very High Frequency) to transmit on, & these are the types of system that often interfere with local taxi firms & other shortwave radio users. UHF does not have this problem & provided that you're using a UK licenced frequency (which you will be with a Freeport system) the only interference that is possible is from another UHF wireless system that uses the same frequency (ie - another member of your band!).

Multi Channel means that the wireless system can be switched to work on different frequencies. The Sennhieser Freeport system has 4 frequencies (or channels) to chose from - all of which are UK approved to be used without a licence. This means you can run 4 Freeport systems simultaneously in the same band - you just each select a unique frequency. If you need more than 4 wireless systmes then you'll need to buy a more expensive system with more frequencies to chose from (like the Sennheiser Evolution Systems).
In summary, the Freeport system operates on UHF which means virtually no chance of interference, & it has 4 channels to choose from, which means up to 4 people can use Freeport systems in the same band.

The headset system is the same as the presenter system, but comes with a light weight, high quality headset mic as well as the lapel mic. This is ideal for singers/dancers who want to move around a lot, or for teachers or people doing business presentations. Because the headset mic is much closer to the mouth then the lapel mic, the headset system is much more suitable for singing.

Radio mics at this end of the market used to be really poor quality. Somehow Sennheiser have achieved a really high quality mic with fantastic reception, very little handling noise etc.

Its not as flexible as the evolution - but so simple, just select one of the four channels and that's it. I'm now running three of these systems together with absolutely no interference or problems.

    Definitely recommend the product.

Let me start by saying that the delivery was quick and the item arrived in good condition. I have been testing the wireless system through a Zoom H4N digital recorder connected to my Sony Pro Camcorder mic input. With the sound on the camcorder set to manual, the output of the Zoom H4N set to around 40% and the mic level adjusted manually, I have been able to get some good results. I have purchased a 12v Nimh power pack which I have velcroed to the top of the receiver. This makes the unit truly portable. I have yet to try the set up at a wedding for the speeches. Because I have only tried this under controlled conditions at home, I have held back on giving it the full five stars. If it works well in the field, then I will look at getting the Presenter System as well, which has the tieclip mic.

After looking at second wireless systems for big band vocals fir some time finally decided on this item based on other reviews, price and reputation and certainly haven't been disappointed. Build and functionality what you might expect of a system at this price but has certainly proved useful, robust and an asset to the band. If lure looking for a good basic, reliable system my experience so far would support going for this.

The Sennheiser wireless microphone has proved to work at a distance which exceeds its spec. and the sound quality is excellent. I like the matt grip surface, which works well for singers with a perspiration problem! The RF leds give a useful comfort feeling and the diversity seems to work seamlessly. Having alternative output connectors is a very useful feature.
