The Marshall JCM1 50th Anniversary Head is a Limited Edition 1w valve amp based on Marshall's sought after JCM800, considered by many guitarists to be the best amp ever made! The JCM800 was made to rock. Hard. And so is the JCM1! With 2 x ECC83 preamp valves and 1 x ECC82 power valve you can already tell the famous Marshall tone is going to be there, then factor in the Master Volume (They finally got there!), gain boast and the JCM1's 0.1w all of which allow more and more gain at lower and lower volumes, you end up with a amp that gets the filthy saturated tones of the 80s at a volume that won't cause the plaster in your walls to crumble. Or in fact any auditory displeasure whatso ever!

The JCM features controls for Pre-amp volume (gain), Master volume, Bass, Middle and Treble, allowing you to dial in the exact tone you're after whether it's Eddie Van Halen or Richie Sambora!

This head version features 8 & 16 Ohm Speaker Outputs

Here's what Marshall say about the JCM1

In 1981, Marshall released another amplifier that would once again go down in the history books as a classic. The JCM800 is still looked upon as one of the best amps in the world even today, and it’s this amp that inspired the next model in the 50th Anniversary One Watt Range; the JCM1. Delivering everything you’d expect and more, this is quintessential 1980’s tone. A boost switch also introduces a slightly different voicing that is based on another iconic amp from that decade; the Silver Jubilee.

Although each of the five amplifiers within the 50th Anniversary One Watt range are unique, the series also have some common features; they are all made with pride at our UK factory, and will only be so during 2012 making these amplifiers limited edition. Each model will be available as both a one watt combo incorporating an 8" or 10" Celestion speaker (varying from model to model), and a one watt head. Other common features include 8 and 16 ohm speaker outputs on the heads and combos, era correct cosmetic details, a commemorative rear panel plaque, and a unique low power switch on each of the units' rear panels, allowing you to instantly take the power from 1 watt to 0.1 watt for the ultimate Marshall bedroom volume

Amazing amp - you really can get that JCM800 tone at sensible volumes (and some not so sensible volumes too). I'm running it into a 1 x 12 with a greenback and it sounds great, but it sounds sublime through my friend's 2 x 12 with V30's.

It also sounds pretty nice cleaned up, especially witha strat - much nicer clean tones than I was expecting!

    Highly recommended.

The JCM1 is a fantastic amp that does a great impression of the JCM800 heads from the 80's at a volume level that's much easier to manage.

I have had this JCM-1H for three months now and I am very happy with it.

I am running it into the Celestion Elite GH-50 12" speaker which comes in my Egnater Tweaker 40 Combo.

The amp delivers what it says on the tin - modern overdrive.

In 1 watt mode, it is significantly less loud that my 15 watt Tweaker. I can take it to 6 and 6 on the gain and master volume in the house.

To give you an idea of how loud this is, it's loud enough to make the neighbours get in their car and drive off to get some peace and quiet. But it's not loud enough to make the wood in our staircase/the windows vibrate.

I tend to play clean/properly for a hour or so then switch to the Marshall for ten minutes of self indulgence :)

I have also used the 0.1 watt mode. In certain settings this can be useful. For example, I used the JCM-1 as a preamp running it into the FX return on my combo and this worked okay. In theory then you could run in into your stomp boxes and get round the lack of FX loop.

It is also useful if you don't fancy playing so loud. The tone can get a fizzy at very low volumes on 0.1 watt.

But I can get whey better overdrive on this that on my Tweaker because the sweet spot is that much lower.

I would also say this is a much better amp that the Class 5 if you're looking for modern distortion. I demo'd one in the shop and that lack of master volume was a problem.

I tend to avoid the Jubilee mode. I find it a little too over the top, a bit muddy. Perhaps it would suit different guitars better. I use play an Epiphone SG with SD pups. But it is a nice feature to have.

Build quality on the unit is outstanding. It's nice to have the 'finshed by' sticker on there. To me that's a sign of geniune pride. All the knobs are solid. Definately up there with the top end Marshalls being made today. I'd find it difficult to part with it for this reason. It looks awesome.

Before the 50th range was announced I was considering a second hand JCM 800, but I used to have a 40 watt DSL 401, and I could never get that above 3 at rehersals and for home use it was at 1.5. So I knew I'd have the same issue with the 50 watt JCM 800 and when I heard about this bad boy, I was counting down the months. So I admit to a certain degree of Marshall bias in advance!

But, I'm giving this unit 4 stars. The reason it's not 5 is due to the lack of FX loop. But I think it is kind of a unique offering, so if you really want the JCM 800 sound, it would be a 5 for you.

Great tone in a compact size with manageable home/practice power wattage/volume. However "Zero" extra features is a bit of a drag since MG series or Blackstar include reverb etc at a far far lower price. It's all good but the very high price. It would be 10 times better at half the price!!!
