HT5RH 5w Tube Head

The popular small tube head, the Blackstar HT-5H, gets an update for 2011 to the Blackstar HT-5RH. This amazing Blackstar head now has reverb, a clean channel tone control, state of the art speaker emulated output and an MP3 / Line in socket for jamming.

Complete with a channel-switching footswitch the HT-5RH is the small tube amp that sounds huge. A few years ago tube amps weren't available on this kind of budget. Now, with the HT-5RH, they excel themselves with features and sweet tube sound to die for whether you need a shimmering clean or fat, searing drives.

Here's what Blackstar say about the Blackstar HT-5RH

When the original HT-5 was launched in 2008 it quickly became one of the most successful studio and practice amps ever designed. Packing all the great tone and ionnovative features of the award winning HT valve pedals into a two channel, goot switchable valve amp format with a unique push-pull power amp design it was an instant classic.

Due to popular demand 2011 sees this groundbreaking amp re-launches and improved with a whole host of new features:

  • Digital stereo reverb as found on the HT Venue Series and HT-1 adding a rich depth to any playing style.
  • Dedicated Tone control on the Clean Channel providing even greater tonal flexibility over the HT-5R's shimmering cleans.
  • State-of-the-art enhanced speaker emulated ouput for perfectly capturing valve tone to tape or disk
  • Stereo MP3/Line Input perfect for practice
  • The speaker emulated output can now be used at the same time as the internal speaker/extension cab, providing headphone free monitoring or the choice to blend a mic'd speaker and emulated signal together for unrivaled usability when recording at home or in the studio.

HT-5RH Features

  • Innovative 5 Watt valve head
  • 1x ECC83 and 1x12BH7
  • Unique push pull power amp design
  • Award winning HT Pedal preamp
  • Two footswitchable channels
  • Enhanced tone controls
  • Patent-applied-for Infinite Shape Feature (ISF)
  • Digital Stereo Reverb
  • Fully equipped for studio or practice
  • Speaker emulated output with 1x12 or 4x12 voicing
  • Effects loop with effects level switch
  • Footswitch included
  • Cool vintage styling
  • Stereo MP3/Line Input

The half stack is supplied with a new design 1x12 Speaker Cabinet loaded with a custom Blackstar designed "Blackbird" speaker.

This is a very well made amp indeed. Everything from the construction to the quality feel of the switches and knobs just screams quality. This also goes for the sound, with a rich, warm with a nice bit of bite. The emulated output is pretty good - not as good as a mic but for a home studio when you want to do some recording in a room below where the kids are sleeping, it is more than acceptable. The built in reverb is of very quality. Niggles are that the "infinate shape" control is a bit too subtle and only makes a little bit of difference, and that the overdrive is a bit noisy - Anything past half way will require a noise gate. The last niggle is that the volume control is very non-linear. I would liked to have more control at the lower end of the volume because this amp is very loud. A quarter volume is about as much as you need in a room in a house, less if the kids are in bed and I find I spend ages just tweaking the volume by the smallest amount to get the right volume. All said though, the niggles are small (about one stars worth) compared with the quality of sound you get out of it and would definately buy the same model again.

I am delighted with this amp, its as good as the reviews say, great sweet tones and an involving sound even at lower volumes.

for me ht5R is replacing a line 6 flextone 111, the ht5r has a far better sound and is much easier to use.

Easy to order and quick shipping by Andersons.

The Blackstar HT5 with reverb is a good little home use valve amp at an excellent price. Don't get sucked in by all the OTT magazine talk about valve vs electronic amps. Both have their uses and can be really excellent for the average guitar player.

The HT5 is a great little amp that can be wound up at home for recording and has a very useful effects loop linkage.

    Hope this helps.

    Howdy!

I've been looking for a decent amp for home/studio use as my Marshall VR100 is a tad to loud. I'd read plenty of good reviews about Blackstar amps and decided to drive up to Andertons and demo the HT-5R Half Stack.

I took with me my Godin XTSA and the Big Hairy Tone-Caster (Strat).

The clean channel is surprisingly good. The Tone Control gives a great range of tones from a nice warm clean to bright and "twangy" without sounding too dark or too harsh. This was particularly good with the Tone-Casters Hot noiseless pickups. Very Straty!

The Overdrive Channel is where is amp really excels. Its a proper little tone monster! I can't think of a setting I wasn't more than happy with! The ISF does a very good job of varying the tone, giving plenty of options and the gain control takes you from sweet bluesy overdrive proper savage distortion! Absolutely no need to put a pedal in front of this one. As far as overdrive goes this amp covers pretty much everything very very well!

The on-board Digital Reverb is outstanding and works nicely with both clean and Overdrive channels. A great little feature.

Everything sounded great through the 1X12 cab even at the lowest volumes but what really clinched it for me was when I asked the Shop Assistant, "Guitar Paul" (who was very helpful through out) how the head would sound through a 4x12 cab. He very kindly set that up for me. It sounded F***'in EPIC!

I ended up buying the HT-5R Half Stack and IMO this amp is perfect for home/studio use with potential to be very gig worthy with a bigger cab.

The Staff at Andertons were brilliant and the shop is well worth a visit (a very clean and tidy store!) Big Hairy Thanks to Guitar Paul for all his help on the day.

I give the The Blackstar HT-5R Half Stack 9/10 and it gets the Big Hairy Seal of Approval!

    Now go buy one!

For the money this is absolutely a 5 star amp, loud and clear with the capability to be whisper quiet but somehow still responsive.

I wasn't too impressed for the first day but I think your ears have to adjust to a new amp, I plugged in the second day and played for five hours, a sure sign of a good buy.

Don't be deceived by the 5w rating, this amp has the potential to floor you on full volume, the difference between 5w and 50w is apparently small when using a tube amp.

Clean sounds are ok but if you're into overdrive then I can't imagine a better starter amp, after years of using digital/ss I now know exactly what the fuss is about.
