Roland TD9KX Electronic Drum Kit

N.B. This kit does not come with a kick drum pedal. The double kick pedal shown does not come with the kit and is to illustrate that the kick pad can accommodate a double pedal.

The TD9KX is the latest in Roland's line of top quality electronic drum kits, from their world renowned V-Drums range.

The KX version comes with all mesh pads for a more realistic drum feel, also a multi-zone ride cymbal pad so you can get 2 cymbal sounds (crash at edge, ride on top, for example) but also a ride bell sound.

With the new Roland TD-9 advanced sound engine at its core, the mid-range V-Tour TD-9KX V-Drums electronic kit is loaded with fresh sounds, and offers a deeper level of expression with new and even more realistic, natural sounds. The TD-9 electronic drum kit offers expanded practice functions, and new improved Drum Hardware for set up flexibility with new cymbal-arms and ball-clamps for snares and cymbals. Together with Roland's most advanced triggering technology, the TD-9KX V-Drums electronic drum kit is destined to become a big hit with drummers worldwide.

Roland's new SCOPE function featured on the TD-9KX, allows you to visualize in real time the timing of your playing on each pad versus a metronome pulse. The Scope function is an excellent feature for improving your timing accuracy.

The V-Tour Roland TD-9KX V-Drums electronic drum kit contains: 1 Hi-hat control pedal FD-8, 1 Kick trigger pad
KD-8, 1 Cymbal pad for hi-hat CY-5, 1 Cymbal pad for crash CY-8, 1 V-Cymbal for ride CY-12R/C, 1 V-Pad for snare PD-105, 3 V-Pad for tom PD-85, TD-9 Drum sound module, and MDS-9 supporting rack.

The TD-9 drum module is the basis of Roland's new mid-line V-Drums drumw with 50 drum kits and 522 drum instruments. The Roland TD-9 drum module features a 128 x 64 dots backlit LCD display with oversized buttons and controls. A user-friendly, icon-based interface makes editing sounds and customizing kits fast and fun.

Play along with real-audio backing songs to build your musical experience base. Use the USB port to play along with .WAV audio files, back up your data, or save a ”quick record“ performance. The "Quick Record“ and "Quick Play“ features of the Roland TD-9 module allow you to immediately record and play back solo drum parts, or drum parts performed with the backing songs. Special connecting cable allows for fast, clean and easy connection to the pads.

Was a little skeptical buying at first as used to acoustic drum kits.

However after the first couple of plays I really got on well with the kit and think it's already helped improve my playing.

Sounds great through the headphones that come in the accessory pack along with the sticks and drum stool.

Plugging your iPhone / iPod in and playing along to songs is easy and it sounds great.

    Overall a great product.

Bought the TD9KX to replace an ageing TD5.

The rack is much simplified from the one with the TD5 and I was expecting to move everything to the old rack but actually it is fine, completely stable, with few bits and no supports getting in the way.

The ball jointed mounts are only supplied for the snare, ride and crash, but are very handy. Getting the position of the snare right is crucial and the ball joint really helps.

The ride is pretty clever, perhaps a little too clever. The manual does not explain which of the two connectors go where, we got it wrong first time. No damage done, just the wrong sounds coming from the wrong regions! It is hard to get the wanted sound from the ride, I think a bit of sensitivity tuning is required across edge, bow and bell regions, but it will be worth it.

The sounds are excellent, and a pretty wide selection are available if you don't like any of the initial 50 kits. Editing is simple. You can play music files stored on a USB stick, but note only if they are in .WAV format, which are unusual these days - mostly due to the fact that they are 10x bigger than the equivalent .MP3, .WMA or .AAC files. It almost certainly means that you will need to rip these files especially for use with the kit. Nonetheless, this is a very handy feature as we have found that a CD player balanced nearby inevitably skips and jumps as you play. Alternatively you can use an MP3 player plugged into the AUX IN input.

Personally I don't like the connector harness that Roland now supply, a single, mammoth concoction of wires that end in one multiway connector. If one cable becomes damaged, either an expensive replacement is required or a repair. I much prefer the old way, 1/4" to 1/4" instrument cables - dead cheap to replace. I figure it is cheaper for Roland, though I can't see how.

We bought this at the 2010 Boxing Day sale price, unmatched in the UK. Excellent price, and excellent value. Really, really happy. Although we bought over the internet, we spoke to someone in the shop first who was helpful, polite and knowledgable. Excellent service, thank you!

The only downer is that Andertons use CityLink for delivery, a company with a track record of uselessness in Suffolk. The kit was delayed 5 days, stuck in a depot which we were told was open when it was not.

Very easy to set up and feels so much better than other electronic kits I have played before (ones that are more expensive).

Only downsides are that the bass drum could be a little bigger and more sturdy without the need to screw it to the floor and the rims are a little high. Otherwise, a great buy!!

I was looking for a drum kit that could serve two purposes. One being that I wanted a practice kit that didn't cause the neighbours to come barricading through my door to destroy an acoustic kit and second was that I wanted to use it to record drum tracks to my mac. for both, this kit is incredible. Not only are the sounds on the kit better that on some more expensive kits but the triggers are so easy to manipulate for use with drum sample programs in logic so I can have a wider choice of sounds.

The heads themselves are extremely reactive and I would completely recommend getting this kit over the model below with rubber pads. You really get a good feel for ghost notes and that coupled with some really nice standard kits gives you a really good playing experience.

All in all I would recommend this kit to anyone and I am completely happy with my purchase.

The combination of functionality and price means this is a very good buy for people like myself who played years ago (at school) and now perhaps some funds available to buy a kit to refresh the skills and interest.

Some might say its a little pricey for the absolute beginner when there are other (electronic) kits available that save on the pocket and the noise to other family members, but compared with the other kits available of similar spec (Yamaha DTXtreme etc.) the value is excellent. The KX all mesh heads and 3 zone ride with the KX model are worth the extra money from the regular TD9 model - believe me, I deliberated for weeks about the upgrade option but am glad I went for it.

The free startup pack that was available when I bought my kit (which had kick pedal, throne, sticks and headphones) was an added bonus.

    Highly recommended.
