One of our most popular kits of 2010 just got even better! The Alesis DM10 Studio offers incredible value for money and plenty of versatility when it comes to sounds on the DM10's brain and pads on the kit itself. RealHead Drum pads contribute to a playing experience that will let you transfer your acoustic playing skills to the electric kit and vice versa.

The main improvement on the 2011 version is a stronger rack which will now hold additional pads and other percussion, whilst remaining compact for drummers where the amount of space their kit takes up is of concern.

The 2011 DM10 Studio kit by Alesis is fully loaded out of the box, and even advanced drummers will struggle to max out its features. A great kit for any drummer!

Here's what Alesis say about the DM10 Studio Kit

The DM10 Studio Kit is professional, six-piece electronic drum set with natural-feeling RealHead drum pads, low-noise DMPad Cymbals, the groundbreaking DM10 drum module, and a compact, flexible StageRack.

DM10 MODULE

You will immediately notice the DM10 module's outstanding sound quality. This new drum sound module contains true drum, cymbal and percussion sounds, built from real samples of classic studio drums and prized cymbals. Drummers will find some of the most in-demand acoustic drum sounds from legendary drum brands, a huge arsenal of top producers' go-to snare drums, real American, Canadian, Chinese, and Turkish cymbals, and a choice selection of classic drum machine and electronic percussion sounds that have fueled the biggest hit records.

Discerning ears will notice that each sound is actually a series of different samples; multiple dynamic-level samples and articulations are all built in so as you play harder and softer, the drum or cymbal changes its timbre, not just its volume. This engineered realism is known as Dynamic Articulation, an Alesis exclusive. You can play with or without reverb for different room sounds and enjoy a wide variety of rimshots, rim clicks and different stick-placement sounds on the cymbals. For example, a hi-hat's sound depends on a number of factors: how open or closed the pedal is, how hard it is struck, and other variables resulting in 40 different sounds - plus foot chick and heel splash.

The DM10 module not only has a breathtaking collection of sounds onboard, it is also the world's first drum-sound module that enables you to load new sound sets via USB connection from your computer. This means that your sounds will always stay fresh, current and cutting edge.

You can also use the DM10 as a trigger-to-MIDI interface for performing and tracking with software drum modules such as BFD, Toontrack and Reason, among others. For practice, you can play along with the tracks in the DM10's internal sequencer, mix in an iPod or other MP3 player and play along.

The DM10 module has 12 trigger inputs, perfect for creating custom configurations. The DM10's top-panel mixer gives you easy access to creating custom mixes.

REALHEAD DRUM PADS

The DM10 Studio Kit features Alesis' acoustic-feeling RealHead pads in 10" and 8" sizes. The dual-zone pads feature real mylar drumheads and real triple-flanged counterhoops for the feel you demand. The snare and tom pads are dual zone, enabling you to perform rimshots, rim clicks or assign other sounds such as wind chimes, cymbals, gongs and cowbells on the tom rims.

RealHead snare and tom pads mount on standard 10.5mm L-rods with low-slip, knurled mounting surfaces.

You can use virtually any single or double kick pedal with the RealHead Kick Pad, or split the DM10's kick input with a Y-cable and connect an optional second kick pad for the pedal feel you prefer.

DMPAD CYMBALS

The DM10 Studio Kit includes a set of four low-noise DMPad Cymbals. The kit includes a DMPad Hi-Hatl, a DMPad Crash with choke, and a triple-zone DMPad Ride with choke, and a DMPad Cymbal. DMPad Cymbals provide a rubberized playing surface for a great balance between natural cymbal feel and low stick-on-pad sound. The Ride and one Crash cymbal feature large choke triggers on the undersides for accurate cymbal control. The DMPad Ride also features multi-zone triggering on the bell, face and edge. The DMPad Hi-Hat Cymbal and RealHat Pedal give you continuously variable control from wide open to tightly closed.

NEW FOR 2011 - STAGERACK

The StageRack is the backbone of the DM10 Studio Kit. With its rugged four-post design and industry standard 1 1/2" tubing, the StageRack provides supreme stability under the most serious drumming duress. The StageRack's clamps, mounts, and integrated boom cymbal arms are all fully adjustable with plenty of flexibility to securely fasten your drums, cymbals, and module exactly where you want. You won't need tools to make most adjustments so you can spend less time setting up and more time rocking out. Large enough to easily accommodate additional drums and cymbals - even acoustic drum, cymbal, and percussion instruments - the StageRack still takes up only a fraction of the space of an acoustic kit.

The DM10 Studio Kit gives you more - more drums, more cymbals, more sounds, more flexibility, and more value - to power your creativity.

Very good when it has all been set-up but you do need to spend a fair bit of time calibrating everything and stopping crosstalk- it's certainly not a play straight away kind of thing.

It's pretty realistic for an electric kit but also very loud due to the real drum heads- the bass drum can certainly be heard by other people in the house. It's worth it for the feeling that you are actually beating a drum though, just don't get it if you want something really quiet.

I bought this to replace my old electric kit hoping for something a bit sturdier and more realistic to play.

The drum pads are well built and the multi touch allowing you to play both the drum and rim is a nice touch. The feel of the pads is pretty good, not quite like the real thing but for what it is, i really can't complain. It's nice quality and plays well and serves all my needs. The cymbals are pretty standard for an electric kit, but they too serve what they need, and the ride cymbal also offers multi touch so you can play the cymbal, the bell and the edge all independently.

The control box is pretty good. Looks a bit complicated at first but once you find your way around it works great. There's plenty of library sounds and you can mix your own sounds by layering them up to create a whole unique kit that sounds just as you want it.

Only negatives are that it takes ages to get the hi hat set up. I found you hit it once and it would trigger about 20 times. After a lot of tweaking you will get it working, just takes a bit of patience. The only other minor problem is that i can't position and angle my snare drum very well... but with a bit more playing I'm sure it'll get there!

Overall though. Plays well, sounds great, and looks pretty awesome. Well worth it if you don't mind spending a couple hours setting up all the pads, calibrating and getting th levels right.

This DM10 I bought is a good kit when I sorted the small bits of adjustments. Installing the base pedal to the unit, don't rely on the velcro for stability you need the spurs out on the base pedal unit and the pedal to make it secure. The base drum unit lifts up on the back end when the pedal is installed therfore making the base pedal unit rock from side to side before I extended the feet with washers so all four feet of the base unit were on the floor, this greatly improved the use of this unit as a whole.

The snare drum bar is ok but I had to make sure that the snare drum was well balanced over the centre of the bar otherwise the clamp that holds the snare drum twisted into a tilt along with the drum hence I suppose that is why Alesis now use a stand for the snare now.

I find this kit as a whole a very enjoyable kit to play being very responsive and easy to set up. As this is my first electric kit it's like anything new I am still getting to grips with all that it has to offer and master it before i take it out on the road to play at a live gig. The drum pads having a different sound on the outer ring come in use too as long as you don't catch them when your not supposed to. Soundwise this kit produces some great sounds when patched through our PA system and it gives our band as a whole a cleaner sound without having to worry about feedback from microphones. Another advantage I found is practicing, quiet is the word either played through the headphones supplied or just playing dry with music in the background.

Overall Andertons provided a great level of service supplying me with this purchase and at a competative price.

Let me start by saying that as regards value for money and sound capabilities this kit delivers!

However, its not a five grand super kit and therefor it has a few "niggles" The DM10 module (brain) comes loaded with a 100 preset kits so you should find that out the box there are a couple that come close to what you want, also there are another 100 defaults for you to make up any kit you like.

All the kits can be customised and you can easily do a reset if you muck it up. also, you can download updates and sound libraries via the onboard usb connection.

Personally, I did not like the Mylar heads as they were hard and noisy (see dm10 mesh head conversion on the DMdrummer website)so I did the conversion using Zed mesh heads, the feel and the response was much improved.

I added an extra crash, and just me being me I bought a set of 10" toms to replace the 8" converting these to mesh head too just because I could, and preferred the extra head area and the look!

I did have a small problem with one input channel, but Alesis and Andertons co-operated very efficiently to put this right all on the same day! excellent after sales service!!!

Im a guitarist and only a beginner drummer, it is a friend who is a very experienced drummer and he says its pretty darn good!

There is literally a ton of info on the DMdrummer site that would answer any questions or help with any problems.

I only gave it four out of five because the mesh head conversion really makes such a difference that I think its a shame its supplied with the not so nice mylars.

P.S the mesh head conversion does mean changing the internal order of the foam in the pads but is simple to do.
