What Alesis say about the DM6 Electronic Drum Kit
The perfect choice for aspiring drummers everywhere.
The Alesis DM6 Kit highlights the best of Alesis' 20 years of experience in professional electronic percussion gear. This electronic drum set features a completely new sound module with 108 quality drum, cymbal, and percussion sounds. Its pads feel great and its hardware and rack system are high quality.
The DM6 does not come with a stool, sticks or headphones. If you already have a drum kit, then chances are you'll have all these items anyway, but if you're starting from scratch you'll need to buy these extra bits in order to get going. Any stool, headphones & sticks will work with the DM6, but here are some links to some of the basic options you might need.
UNMISTAKABLE ALESIS FEEL
Like all Alesis drum sets, the DM6 Kit features realistic, natural-feeling playing surfaces. To reduce vibration feedback, we selected natural rubber drum and cymbal surfaces for the DM6 Kit's pads. This five-piece kit gets you started on a dual-zone snare pad for two-sound compatibility. You can dial in a snare drum sound in the center and a rim click, rimshot, or something totally different like a cowbell on the rim!
The DM6 Kit also comes with three tom pads, an upright kick drum pad, hi-hat, crash, and ride cymbal pads. It even comes with an Alesis bass drum pedal and the kick pad is compatible with any single or double bass drum pedal for your personal feel.
The brand-new DM6 module features an internal collection of top-notch drum, cymbal, and percussion sounds that will blow you away. You can edit and save your drum kits for custom sounds. You get 10 presets and 5 custom slots. In addition to the sounds in the DM6 module, there's a USB output that sends the notes you play out as MIDI signal, so you can use the DM6 as a trigger-to-MIDI interface with drum-module software such as BFD, Toontrack, or Reason for a limitless collection of sounds.
The DM6 has headphone and amplifier outputs so you can play quietly in phones or connect up and rock out. You can also connect your iPod or CD player and mix it in with the DM6's stereo input jack.
The DM6 module has a metronome, an essential tool for keeping steady time whether you're practicing alone or with a band. The DM6 also has a built-in sequencer with 40 preset music tracks for play along.
A drumset is only as strong as its weakest link. The DM6 Kit mounts on a heavy-duty aluminum rack. The standard 1 1/2" tubing enables you to add on with Alesis and other brands' clamps and mounts. The kit also comes with a full set of mounting hardware and cables, as well as rugged kick drum and hi-hat pedals.

Was expecting better from the drum but overall its not so bad for beginners. Had to hit really hard for the snare to hear it though.

Still getting used to them so unfair to comment too much. Budget kit that's well built and sounds great to me!

Cracking drumkit for my son to practice on. Loads of different kits and feels and sounds like an acoustic kit.

The Alesis DM6 is a great product, suitable for both younger drummers starting out as well as more experienced drummers needing a kit to practice on (quietly) at home.
The kit is compact so you don't need too much space and is very easy to put together.
The features are all useful too - with a number of different sound effects as well as the ability to plug in your ipod and play along to other music.
Highly recommended - great price, easy to put together and use with a good quality feel about it too.

For the money, this is a very well built, sturdy kit that is very easy to assemble and easy to move around too.
The drum pads have a fairly realistic feel to them, but it's the cymbals that let the kit down.
The kit is used as a practise kit with fairly small amps and the plastic thump of the cymbals is audible over the rest of the instruments. The lack of a choke on the cymbals has also caused an issue once or twice.
I may be being a little unfair as I can't help comparing this kit to our other one (Roland TD-12KX) which cost 10 times as much, but I feel that they should have made a little more effort on the cymbals as they are the only part of this kit that lets it down.

As a songriter, the Alesis DM6 Electronic Drum Kit provided me with a quieter way to record my demo's! The drum sounds are very good, and at the price I can definately recommend anybody in my position or new to drumming to purchase.
The kit is very easy to set up with full instructions and coded items.
The only downside is the rim shots on the snare as (unless I am doing something wrong) you only seem to be able to select snare or rim as a sound. I have tried to use the 'handle' of the drum stick like I would with a normal acoustic snare but do not get the rim sound.
The problem with the rim on the snare is the only reason for marking it down to a 4.
Go out and buy one!

The DM6 is an excellent entry level electronic drum kit. Assembly is pretty straight forward and the cable snake and labelled leads make setting up straight forward. The on board sounds are varied but I really like the option of using it a Midi Trigger. I was able to set this up very quickly. This kit is ideal for a beginner. It is competitively priced as it is cheaper than Yamaha and Roland entry level kits. I would however suggest downloading the firmware from the Alesis website as without this you may experience some drop-out on the snare pad. With firmware uploaded this problem is solved.
