Gibson SG 61 Reissue Electric Guitar Heritage Cherry Zoom Image
In 1961, the traditional Les Paul Standard received a makeover that included a thinner body with sharply pointed horns and eventually a new name -- the SG. Today's reissue features the small pickguard and nickel-plated hardware of the original '61.

This is a quality guitar - it feels head and shoulders above my USA Strat and really is a lovely thing to look at. Comes in a really nice hard case too. Standard of fit & finish is generally excellent with one gripe - mine had a very poor setup out of the factory - intonation was way out. A professional setup absolutely transformed the guitar. Its really light - less than a strat - and is slightly neck heavy as a result - but comfortable for long sessions of playing. All the controls respond really well and you can vary the sound immensely by blending the volume, tone and pickups to suit. Has the same pickup in the neck as a 335 and sounds absolutely fantastic for blues. The bridge pickup rings & chimes and with the amp setup right you can get Angus Young, Pete Townshend, Santana and some great classic rock sounds. It also cuts the mustard with heavily distorted tones too as the pickups pack a lot of punch. The neck itself is a joy to use - the nut is well cut, frets are nicely squared off and the binding and inlays are pretty much what youd expect on a £1300 guitar. As is typical with Gibson tunomatics, the tuning can slip a bit here & there but a bit of carbon in the nut tends to sort that out. All in all an extremely versatile, great sounding guitar.
