This new guitar from the American Standard range has been completely updated. At first glance it all looks similar to the last model, but on closer inspection you will find some great new features. Fender have developed the new range by asking their customers what they want to see in their guitars.

Fender American Jazz Bass
What can you say about an absolute Fender classic, but is it worth paying the extra for the ‘American’? Aren’t the electronics and workmanship close enough? I did my tried and tested method – bunch of flowers for the spouse, then start at the cheap end and walk along the display rack blindfolded, running the left hand down the back of the neck (of the guitars) until you can feel no difference. No doubt about it the transition from ‘margarine’ to ‘butter’ is clearly discernable with the American, and this is where you will have most contact with the instrument. Second test – same approach with the sounds. Start at the lowest cost end of the rack and keep playing ‘Sweet Home Chicago’ until you cannot hear the difference. When I plugged in the American, my cheque book simply jumped out of my inside pocket and laid on the carpet begging for mercy! I have had the Jazz for a month now and no regrets.
