The Yamaha Stagepas 500 System
Please note this system does not come with speaker stands
The Yamaha Stagepas 500 system puts a whole new meaning to the words portable PA. Those clever chaps at Yamaha have designed a PA system where the mixer amp clips into the back of one of the speakers so there is no extra mixer box to carry around. Overall the sound is impressive, especially when you consider the size of the speakers. We'd recommend the Stagepas system to any solo or duo act that require good all round sound but in a very portable package. The Stagepas system is also popular with schools & businesses as it's simple to use & very easy to store in a small space.
Here's what Yamaha say about the Stagepas 500
The Yamaha STAGEPAS 500 is an incredibly lightweight, portable, easy-to-use PA system consisting of a pair of high-performance speakers with a built-in powered mixer.
Using the Yamaha STAGEPAS 500, you can be set up and playing in a matter of minutes, and then packed away and on the road again with the same ease and speed when you're done. And all of this is provided with no compromise in sound quality or versatility, plus some advanced features you normally wouldn't expect to find in systems in this class. Getting great sound for live performance used to be a big deal.
Two 250-watt power amplifiers can fill surprisingly large clubs or rooms, or project your sound over a considerable distance outdoors. The class-D power amplifier has been painstakingly designed to deliver superior sound quality as well as reliability in a remarkably compact unit. The Yamaha STAGEPAS 500 also gives you 10 input channels in all: four mono microphone/line inputs and three stereo line inputs. The additional stereo channel can used for either a stereo or mono source. In addition to the main speaker outputs the mixer has line outputs that can be used to connect additional powered speakers for monitoring, and to send the mixer's output to a recording device.
The STAGEPAS 500 mixer features switchable phantom power for the four mono microphone/line inputs. This lets you use high-performance phantom-powered condenser microphones in situations where you want the extended, natural response they provide. Channels 1 and 2 feature LIMIT/COMP switches that let you apply either limiting or compression to those channels. Limiting can be useful to prevent input overload and distortion with sources that have a wide dynamic range, while compression can add punch to vocals, bass, guitar, and other sources while smoothing out the sound and helping it to "ride" better in the mix. The STAGEPAS 500 mixer has 2-band EQ controls on each channel, as well as REVERB switches on channels 1 through 4. A separate REVERB level control adjusts the reverb mix.
STAGEPAS 500 speakers have 10in woofers and 1in high-frequency units. Both types deliver clean, high-quality sound. The speakers can be stand mounted without standard speaker stand adapters.
Yamaha STAGEPAS 500 main features include
- Dual 250-Watt amplifier
- Versatile 10-channel Mixer with Monitor and Record Outputs
- Phantom Power for High-performance Condenser Microphones
- Built-in Channel Compression/Limiting, 2-band Channel EQ and SPX Digital Reverb
- High-performance 10" 2-way Passive Speakers
- MUSIC / SPEECH Switch optimizes the system settings for maximum clarity with speech.
- XLR and phone-jack inputs on mono channels, and phone-jack and RCA pin-jack inputs on stereo channels allow connection to a wide range of sources.
- MIC/LINE switches select microphone or line level input matching for channels 1 through 4.
- Auto Limiter prevents overload damage to power amplifier and speakers.
- LED output level meter.
- Speaker cables supplied.

The Yamaha STAGEPAS 500 is brilliant. So simple to set up and the mixer is very flexible, handling all sorts of input/output combinations. The speakers are not too heavy for moving around easily and yet adequately fill a typical village hall with a rounded sound. I've tried it with a sub-woofer, running off the monitor output, to make the walls shake but it is overkill and I am more than happy with the bass from STAGEPAS 500 in its standard form. Whether you are playing rock, classical of just using it for speech the output from this easy to transport and rig piece of kit is impressive. The reverb facility is great. Putting a bit on a mic makes a small venue feel twice the size. I really like the way that the mixer/amp stows in the back of one speaker with the other providing cable/mic storage, very neat. The speaker leads that are included are token so be prepared to buy more robust and longer leads unless you are happy to have the speakers close to you. Other than that, just add speaker stands and away you go. A lovely package that has impressed a number of gigging musicians that have now seen it.

What a great bit of kit! No messing about, plug it in a go. We run it with head mics and DJ music through it, for our group SavoyHop. Yet to use it with a band but it has it all if you need to.
Recommended bit of kit, and well worth the money if you need something a little louder than the StagePas 300 (which we have also).

The sound is amazing! It is easy to set up, I can set it up on my own in about 5 - 10 mins. Great bit of kit, get this over the stagepas 300!

A brilliant PA system that is very responsive and easily fills a hall with an audience of 100 people even at half volume. No noticable hum or other noise giving a clear sound from CD, DVD or microphone. Brilliant for keyboards as well. Mixer panel gives absolute control and the storage in the other speaker holds mains cable, long speaker leads and balanced microphone cable.
Overall, a 5 star product that won't disappoint.

This really is an excellent piece of kit. You really get the impression that Yamaha have listened very carefully to gigging musicians when they designed it. It's signal to noise ratio is good (no excessive hum or hiss). If you have a really small gig or rehersal then you can turn up with just the one speaker. There are 3 guys in my band : 2 guitars, bass, vocals, plus percussion and synths on backing track. The stagepas 500 handles this well. But don't take my word for it. Google it and chech out the glowing reviews on Harmony Central and the Paul White review in Performing Musician. One last thing. I think they should sell individual speaker covers as an accessory. The would be more practical than the case they offer.

I love the Stagepass 500 we used to lug about the yamaha emx 660. The Stagepass 500 weighs half as much and sets up in a fraction of the time particularly if you leave the mixer in the speaker back. No obvious reduction in sound quality or volume.

I have never heard one of these units working – it was bought on the the reputation of Yamaha – and they certainly did not fail me this time. Amazing tone and power – and oh boy doesn’t it handle the keyboard well! Total quality! I’d recommend it to anyone.
I don’t know what they put in the “magic box” but I tried it also with an electric mandolin – a tricky tone to set up on amplifiers – it did not even want tweeking – it just worked – truly wonderful/
Thanks and be lucky – my Christmas gigs will knock ‘em out with this lot!!
Ps – this equipment is very bad news for the “knob twiddlers” – they will find themselves redundant!! “IT” does the twiddling!!!
