Providence is a Japanese manufacturer of high end audio equipment that is in use by many gigging professionals around the world. Recently, their guitar pedals have been receiving some great acclaim from the guitar world with some of their pedals making an impression in Guitarist Magazine's "101 best stompboxes of all time". The Stampede Overdrive was one of these pedals with Guitarist calling it is "among the leading dynamic overdrives around". Additionally, Guitar Buyer magazine gives it a stunning review. We've added a few choice quotes below!

Guitar Buyer Review

  • "The first thing that comes to mind when playing through the Stampede OD - apart from, 'Where have you been all my life?' - is the incredible amount of clarity the pedal has"
  • "It is incredibly responsive to the instrument, the tone of which is never lost."
  • "It sizzles and soars, being equally at home with rhythm or lead playing."
  • "Outstanding."

For a warm, harmonically rich overdrive that will make you go wow every time - check out the Providence Stampede Overdrive.

Here's what Providence say about the Sonic Drive SOV2

The Providence SOV-2 Stampede OD pedal is designed to deliver natural overdrive without obscuring the inherent characteristics and tone of the guitar being used. It features a special bipolar power supply that powers the internal circuitry with boosted voltage, providing a wider dynamic range than possible with conventional 9-volt powered overdrives. For singing lead tones and solid, chunky rhythms, there's nothing like the SOV-2 Stampede OD.

In standard "true bypass" circuits the instrument signal passes through two switch contacts when bypassed. The SOV-2 Single Contact True Bypass configuration ensures that the signal only passes through one switch contact when bypassed, for unmatched signal quality as well as reliability.

In addition to indicating the pedal's on/off status, the SOV-2 LED provides effective visual battery power monitoring. When the battery voltage drops below 5 volts the LED will become dimmer and begin to go out. The effect will still operate at this voltage, but to ensure optimum performance the battery should be replaced as soon as possible.

Caution!

The power consumption of the SOV-2 Stampede OD pedal is 90 mA (DC 9V). The pedal will operate from a 9-volt battery, but the battery will be drained rapidly so the use of an AC adaptor is recommended. Actual battery operation times will depend on the specific battery used, but a rough estimate is: 30 minutes for a standard manganese battery, or 2 hours for an alkaline type.

This is a fantastic pedal right out of the box. Sturdy and well built and very easy to use. The sound quality is brilliant. You know you have a quality pedal the minute you hear it

Having read reviews of this pedal and seen the 'name' acts that use/endorse it I was expecting something special.

    Boy , does this deliver!

Everything it says on the tin and more.

I used it with a strat, ales paul and a 335 through a blackstar artisan 15 head and cab , an orange tiny terror and a bugera v5 and each case brought out great crunch and smooth overdrive tones without colouring the guitar OR amp qualities.

Really great Overdrive. From clean boost to natural overdrive this pedal has it all. Most importantly it does not obscure your guitars tone! Blue/Rock heaven !
