Blackstar HT Effects Pedals

Following on from the hugely successful Blackstar HT Tube Drive pedals, Blackstar have just announced the release of 3 new HT Tube Effects pedals.

This range of three digital/valve pedals will consist of a delay, a reverb and a modulation pedal. Each pedal will have eight effects modes and a simple boutique operation.

The valve will be on the input stage of the pedals as was the case with vintage valve effects. The amount of valve warmth and breakup will be variable. The digital effects will be modelled on vintage effects.

HT-Delay "pure valve delay"
HT-Reverb "pure valve reverb"
HT-Modulation "pure valve modulation"

All 3 models will be floor-mounted using the existing HT Range housing. The switching will be completely silent. All models include an ECC83 valve and will come supplied with a 16V AC mains adapter. All pedals have and stereo outputs, a bypass footswitch and either and tap tempo footswitch or a time mode footswitch. A level indicator is included next to the Saturation control to indicate the strength of the effect. This will change in colour from green (no saturation), through yellow and orange to red.

Great modulation pedal. All the modulation effects: flanger, phaser, chorus, tremelo, rotary speaker, all of which sound great. The saturation control puts more or less of the signal through the valve, which does bring a nice valve break up when wound up. It also brings a nice warmth to the sound when in the lower half of the range. All of the effects sound good, with a quality tone to the sound. Quality is a word I would use for this pedal overall. It is built very well, it has an expensive feel to it and a quality sound, with great versitility. Why did I give it 4 stars and not 5? The level control has multiple functions and with the phaser I wanted it to control the level of effect added to the guitar signal, which it does on some of the other effects. On the phaser effect it controls the level of modulaton. There isn't a way of controlling how much effect is added to the signal with the phaser mode. A minor issue, but one that if solved would have made this the perfect modluation pedal, with that great warm tube sound. With some of the other modulation modes the level control does let you change the amount of effect added to the signal. Having said all that, why did I come home having bought this pedal? Simple. It sounds great and is built great. A quality bit of kit, with the added bouns of letting you bring in as much valve warmth as you like. Sweet.
