Easily our best selling tube combo of the past few years, the Blackstar HT-5 gets an update for 2011 to the Blackstar HT-5R. This amazing little combo now has reverb, a clean channel tone control, a new 12" inch speaker instead of 10", state of the art speaker emulated output and an MP3 / Line in socket for jamming.

Complete with a channel-switching footswitch the HT-5R is the small tube amp that sounds huge. A few years ago tube amps weren't available on this kind of budget. Now, with the HT-5R, they excel themselves with features and sweet tube sound to die for whether you need a shimmering clean or fat, searing drives.

Here's what Blackstar say about the Blackstar HT-5R

When the original HT-5 was launched in 2008 it quickly became one of the most successful studio and practice amps ever designed. Packing all the great tone and ionnovative features of the award winning HT valve pedals into a two channel, goot switchable valve amp format with a unique push-pull power amp design it was an instant classic.

Due to popular demand 2011 sees this groundbreaking amp re-launches and improved with a whole host of new features:

  • Digital stereo reverb as found on the HT Venue Series and HT-1 adding a rich depth to any playing style.
  • Dedicated Tone control on the Clean Channel providing even greater tonal flexibility over the HT-5R's shimmering cleans.
  • 12" Blackbird 50 Watt speaker, custom designed by Blackstar
  • State-of-the-art enhanced speaker emulated ouput for perfectly capturing valve tone to tape or disk
  • Stereo MP3/Line Input perfect for practice
  • The speaker emulated output can now be used at the same time as the internal speaker/extension cab, providing headphone free monitoring or the choice to blend a mic'd speaker and emulated signal together for unrivaled usability when recording at home or in the studio.

HT-5R Combo Features

  • Innovative 5 Watt valve combo

A great little amp that for its size packs a real punch and depth of sound - built to a very high standard. The amp and the dials/switches ooze quality and you know it's going to last.

My only slight niggle is the instructions aren't that detailed for someone who is just starting out so there's a little a bit of trial and error until you get the sound you're after.

Had to wait for this as it was out of stock.....but well worth it!! Read all the reviews, and sort of took them with a pinch of salt as they gushed about how good this is. But they are right. This amp is amazing. The clean channel can now be adjust separately with its own tone pot, and the lead sounds are stunning. Even if you just want a bluesy crunch with the gain almost down to minimum it sings!! I have other small valve combos but this beats them all - no contest. I cannot recommend this enough!

The amplifier sounds superb. I am not a guitarist myself (more of a piano person) but all in the household noticed a huge difference once my son started playing on the Blackstar as compared to his previous cheapo amplifier. The sound is rich, the overdrive excellent so Sweet child o' mine sounds like it should...

In terms of the service from Andertons, it was excllent - prompt delivery and robust packaging.

Bought this amp to replace my line 6 spider as I could not find the sound I was looking for amongst the hundreds of presets (it's just too techy).

I usually try out any new equipment at the shop before I buy but I was so impressed with the vid that Chappers and the Captain posted on YouTube that I decided to upgrade.

I'm not a great guitar player by any means but the noise that this thing makes when combined with my Epi Les Paul ZW custom + is just awesome. I even find myself using the clean channel which is unheard of.

I cannot recommend this amp enough.

This is a lovely amp with superb build quality and full, warm valve tones - all the way from clean/sparkly to heavily overdriven. And it's loud too. Perfect for practice, rehearsals and small gigs. It even comes with a footswitch to switch between normal and overdrive channels -unlike most other amps I've looked at and used in the past, where the footswitch had to be bought separately. The on-board reverb is adequate rather than blinding - but it's a nice addition to previous models which did not have built in reverb, saving you having to cart that extra pedal around. The only downside is the positioning of the inputs for headphones, emulated speaker output (which sounds fantastic, by the way) MP3 input etc. These are awkwardly placed at the back and can be fiddly to get to. No doubt this compromise helped keep the cost down and I'd say that this quality of amp is fantastic value for money so it was worth it.

    Overall, I'm delighted with it.
