Blackstar HT1 1W Combo without Reverb

N.B. Please note picture 2 shows the rear of the HT1R (HT-1 combo with reverb). This product - the HT1 - does not have a reverb control.

For those of us who loved the HT5, but really need to keep the watts down, the Blackstar HT1 Guitar amp is bound to be a hit! It packs in 1W of all tube punch into a tiny portable combo which just oozes tone! You can crank the little beggar at home and enjoy the sort of tones you'd expect from a searing Blackstar amp, but at a volume that will barely leave your bedroom.

When you do need to take the HT-1 to a gig, just plug a cab into the provided speaker output to move more air and get a massive sound. Mic it up, and you could play a stadium with this amp!

Here's what Blackstar say about the HT1 Combo

The HT-1 is the perfect studio and practice amp, packing all the great tone and innovative features of the award-winning HT-5 valve amp into a 1 Watt format.

The patent-applied-for ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) circuit gives you infinite adjustment over the characteristics of the tone control network and takes you from the USA to the UK and anywhere in between. So now you can effectively design your own tone and finally find 'the sound in your head'. In making the HT-1 ideally suited to home and studio use, the aim was to develop a valve amp which sounded full and toneful even at the lowest volume level.

With this in mind the Blackstar design team designed a brand new valve power amplifier topology. The HT-1 power amplifier is a low powered push-pull design which produces the crunch and break-up characteristics of a traditional 100W output stage but at a much lower volume. This is achieved by the use of an ECC82 dual triode in push-pull configuration producing 1 Watt output, which is rich in valve harmonics and compression.

The HT-1 also has a fully specified speaker emulated output which further enhances the studio credentials and allows any guitarist to get amazing valve tone straight to tape or disk, or through headphones. Add to this an MP3 / Line Input, along with an 8Ω speaker output which allows you to run the amp into an external speaker cabinet of your choice, and you have everything you need for recording or practicing.

Blackstar ht1. What can I say but plug in and sound fantastic. This is my second blackstar amp, and I'm hooked ,great sound at low volume,

A lovely creamy clean sound . And when you hit the button it gives you that classic guitar crunch that me and my guitar are looking for. Anything from low gain blues to full gain Metallica .

    I love this Amp ..

I recently picked up my guitar again after a lapse of about 10 years during which my old amp had fallen into serious disrepair. I initially wanted to go for an HT-5 (and still might get one after my great experience with this) but went for the HT-1 in the end as is only for home practice use and an HT-5 would probably be over the top.

And this little amp is just the job - surprisingly loud for its modest 1 amp, but capable of delivering all that great tube tone even when not fully cranked up. In fact I usually only have it one about 3 and it sounds just like you'd expect it to on 8, just at a level that doesn't have the neighbours, or my wife, complaining!

The ISF control is great - I mostly seem to be leaning towards the USA with it at about 10 o'clock which just adds enough extra bite for my ears.

A great little amp that's got the guitar back round my neck again!

Brilliant little amp and for the money i don't think you could do much better. Being only 1watt means you can really push the valves to get a fully saturated tone at reasonable levels (which at full wack is just a tad too loud to talk over), which means it is perfect for home recordings and when mic'ed up gives a really full sound.

The thing i really love about this amp is the speaker out, which plugged into my 2x12 laney cab sounds amazing, meaning that gigging with the amp is a really possibility.

The only really issue with the amp is the lack of options for tweaking the EQ, but a decent EQ pedal sorts that right out. Also another minor gripe is that to get a properly clean sound you do lose a lot of the volume as you start getting break up with the gain set above about 10 o'clock.

That said, for what i'm using the amp for (mainly a recording amp) it absolutely does the job.

This is a great amp for practicing at home and especially for obtaining an overdriven valve sound at a volume that will not upset the neighbours (too much). I also have the Marshall class 5 for home practice which is great but find it too loud to achieve an overdriven sound (without effects) at lower volumes in my semi detached house. The Blackstar 1 watt however ticks all the boxes for home practice.

So after having this amp for a month or so heres a brief summary....

Great sounding little amp which begs belief sometimes considering the size of the speaker! If i had one gripe its the fact that the EQ is somewhat limited but you do go into owning one of these knowing full well a normal EQ isnt included so i cant complain too much! However bang an EQ pedal in front and the range of tones expands even more.

Recording with this amp creates some fantastic overdriven sounds, the emulated output works a treat.

One thing to mention is that the amp responds very well to overdrive pedals, i've personally tried a MXR Zakk Wylde in front ot it and it really pulls out some classic Zakk Marshall type tones.

Overall a great little amp, all i would say is make sure your aware of what (small) limitations it does have before you buy.
