Epiphone Thunderbird IV Bass in Vintage Sunburst

The Epiphone Thunderbird IV, based on Gibson's original "Reverse" body design, is a real head-turner! The Thunderbird shape is unique and interesting, yet universally recognised as one of the classic basses of the modern era.

Even the headstock looks like the mutt's nuts compared to most bass guitars.

This model features two humbuckers with dedicated volume controls to ensure buzz-free playing in any environment, a universal tone control, black hardware and white scratchplate with the Thunderbird insignia.

In the 1960s, when the Thunderbird was first introduced, it must have looked like the bass of the future; and we think it has definitely stood the test of time! Whilst this won't turn you into International Rescue, you will be the superhero of the stage!

Here's what Epiphone say about the Thunderbird IV Bass Reverse Guitar

No other bass looks like it or plays like it. The beloved Thunderbird bass from Epiphone features the "reverse" body styling, carved top and dual bass Humbuck pickups, set off with black hardware and Thunderbird insignia on the pickguard.

2 Epiphone humbucking pickups, 2 volume and 1 tone controls. Alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, with dot inlays.

Excellent bass for the money- seriously won't find better quality for the price! Slight downfall being the neck-dive problem, but it doesn't affect my playing as much as people have reported, plus I was aware of this before ordering. The hard case was/ is out of stock, but cannot have any complaints with the overall service. Grand.

Very good bass with a nice sound. Good build quality and finish and set up well out of the box.

One small problem is the neck drop when using the strap, but it doesn't get in the way of playing too much.

An amazing bass, comfortable to hold, sounds brilliant, but a bit top heavy, but thats a samll price to pay for an awsome bass.

I bought my Thunderbird without ever having played one before, Shock horror i know and i was weary about doing so. I'd had a yearning for one of these for a while and i'm glad i bought one.. Initially i found it having a tendency to neck dive horribly, after some modification to re-locate both the fron and rear strap buttons i found i could get the bass prety well balanced.

The tone is the most impressive thing about the Thunderbird. It's boomy grumbly tone is exactly what i'd expected, so it certainly hasn't dissapointed in the sound deparment. The build is seemingly faultless, all the fixtures and fittings seem decent quality for the price, the only mod i might concider at a later date would be a different set of pickups as i feel this bass has more to give with better hardware.

Over all an Impressive bit of kit and well worth your £199. I'm giving it 3 stars because the original strap button position was, in my opinoin a bit of a letdown. Apart from that i say buy one, you'll not be dissappointed :)
