Taylor Baritone 8 String

A beautiful 8 string Baritone from Taylor. This Indian Rosewood guitar is tuned down to B, and the 3rd and 4th strings are doubled an octave above. Lovely, dark and warm tones!

If you like playing in lower tunings on a normal guitar, either with or without heavy strings, you'll definitely be at home with a baritone. The extra length of the neck on a dedicated barry will make sure you get the most out of the guitar in terms of tone and playability.

Reviews

  • "The GT8 is everything you'd expect from Talyor: intelligently designed, flawlessly built with superb playability."
  • "It's not a guitar for everyone, but for the many creative players and singer songwriters out there the potential offered by the GT-8, and the GT-6 too, is too good to be ignored"
  • "We like: Faultless design and construction; unique voice. We dislike: The over-prominent octave strings when its amplified. Verdict: Few acoustic instruments outside of small luthiers' workshops challenge like this baritone. A unique voice on a mainstream stage"

Here's what Taylor say about the 8 String Baritone

Inspired by a baritone guitar designed for Taylor's 35th anniversary, two rosewood/ spruce GS baritone models - an 8-string and a 6-string - join Taylor's acoustic/electric line. Both have a longer 27-inch scale length and are tuned from B to B, offering players a lower, deeper tonal range at normal string tension. The baritones not only suit players who have a lower vocal range, but add a different sonic texture that blends well with other instruments to create a rich ensemble sound. The 8-string incorporates two additional octave strings that are paired with the third and fourth strings. The octave strings brighten up the voice without creating an overly “octave-y” 12-string sound. "It really extends the tonal range and gives the guitar a nicer spread because, as a baritone, the octaves aren't really high," says Bob Taylor. Both baritone models begin shipping in October

Baritone GS (tuned B E A D F# B) with two additional octave strings (paired with the A & D strings). Indian rosewood back/sides, Sitka spruce top, mother-of-pearl diamond fretboard inlays, abalone rosette, rosewood binding, Taylor gold mini tuners, Venetian cutaway and the Expression System pickup
