Reviews

  • "The ability to add/layer harmonies via the A/B footswitch is something the current DigiTech competitors can't manage. This is a major plus point, as it offers greater live performance flexibility and increases musical dimension."
  • "VoiceTone pedals are high-quality products that perform their specific tasks with the minimum of fuss and effort. They make life easier for the performer by providing personal control over useful effects that are exactly as described."
  • Roger Cooper, Performing Musician Magazine, October 2009

Here's what TC Electronic say about the Voice Tone Harmony G

TC Helicon VoiceTone Harmony-G is a studio quality vocal harmony and effects pedal dedicated to guitar players that takes the programming completely out of the equation, since the guitar playing tells Harmony-G what notes to harmonize.

TC Helicon VoiceTone Harmony-G features unique adaptive mixing and harmony arrangement algorithms, that follow the guitar and voice, and produce realistic harmonies without pre-programming. A guitar AutoMix function provides acoustic guitar players with a balanced mix of vocals, guitar and effects. The straightforward controls enable the guitarist to go further and arrange voicing and effects changes in their song by stepping through ten presets with A/B settings as he performs. VoiceTone Harmony-G also features XLR mic level I/O, guitar input and pass-thru for separate amp and guitar tuner inputs.

Live engineer effects are also included, which automatically apply Adaptive EQ, compression and de-essing algorithms so the performer can focus on playing while VoiceTone produces a fully-produced vocal sound with dedicated doubling and reverb/delay combinations.

TC Helicon VoiceTone Harmony-G main features include:

    • Two voice 4th generation intelligent harmony
    • Separate Double effect using overdub algorithm
    • Tone switch engages adaptive Live Engineer Effects
    • 6 reverb/delay combinations – for vocal and guitar input
    • 10 presets each with A/B location
    • Harmony Arrangement algorithm listens to guitar and voice to follow your music
    • Selectable harmony voicing including unique Bass setting
    • XLR mic level I/O in stereo or mono
    • Clean, studio quality mic preamp with phantom power
    • Guitar input and pass-thru for separate amp
    • Guitar Tuner

An excellent peice of kit. I gave it 4 stars only because it has been superceded by a model with usb connection which is updatable. Simple to use straight out of the box without looking at the istructions. But once you do look at them, it is amazing. The sounds are unbelievable. It is made to use with a guitar but also works well with a mandola and banjo. Plug in your mic (doesn't have phantom power for condensers) and your guitar and sing while you play. Hit the footswitch and you are a choir or a duo or a trio all in wonderful harmony. The power supply is a flimsy wall wart and I wonder how long it will last with serious gigging. Overall I would recommend this item for any singer/ guitar player who wants to impress an audience.

Mr. Chris Stidder from Yateley | Purchase date: 09 February 2010 id: 1571

Great piece of kit. Does tend to need to "learn" what it is you are playing, but that only takes a couple of minutes and after the the results and really impressive and very natural sounding. I even use it in a noisy band sitiation pretty successfully (doing Blues/Rock originals and covers). Some vocal discipline is required to get the best out of it (Maria Carey sounds alikes may have problems). The re-vamp (G-XT) has more facilities, but is almost 100.00 quid more (as was this until recently). 140.00 quid well spent.

Mr. Tracey Jones from Penarth | Purchase date: 18 January 2010 id: 1428

This is an exceptional device. Intelligently adjusts the sampled vocal harmony to the chords played on the guitar. It's subtle but you can hear the different pitching when changing chords and phrases. The whole family tried it out and we were just giggling hysterically. It's really bizarre at first, simply because the sampled vocal is so authentic. You're looking around for the other person in the room, but they aren't there. And because it's your voice the blend is so sweet. I would say buy this now. It has changed my playing completely. Always looking for those lush harmonies now. The new model is in the shops at the moment, so this version is at a bargain price. For me, the extras on the new model just don't justify double the sale price. Seriously, I would rather get two of these.

Mr T Datson from Woking | Purchase date: 19 December 2009 id: 1218

Good piece of kit and for my money slightly better than the Digitech Vocalist 2, once I'd got used to it. Make sure your batteries are fresh in your guitars (if applicable) or you might get tracking wobbles, and don't expect miracles. More convincing using a single voice than two. Only problem is if you keep the on/off button down too long it switches on the tuner (and switches off the effects) which is daft.

    Mr I R Bradford from W.Sussex | Purchase date: 12 December 2009 id: 1216

The Harmony G is very robust, well made and does all you'd expect, from a product made by TC.Helicon.

Mr. Steve Bark from Sheffield | Purchase date: 09 December 2009 id: 1148

The TC electronics Harmony G is a fantastic piece of kit. It has transformed the sound of my band. The harmonies are natural sounding and glitch free, and the built-in multi-FX are of a good quality. The construction is great - very solid. It's hard to find any faults with this unit. The only criticism I can make is that the harmonies are a little too good - it would have been nice to be able to delay the voices slightly. All in all, I highly recommend the TC electronics Harmony G. For what it does it's an absolute bargain - you can't afford not to have one.

Simon Jarvis from Cheadle, Cheshire | Purchase date: 04 December 2009 id: 1212

I've been using the rival Digitech Vocal Live 2 for a few weeks but as soon as Anderton's sent me an e-mail about this I had to have it. It's so easy to use - plug in your guitar and mic leads and either send everything via 1 XLR cable to the PA (as I do playing solo) or send the vocal to the PA and the guitar to an amp via any other effect pedals (as I do playing with a band). Up to 2 harmonies are possible plus a doubling effect to thicken up your main melody. The pedal "listens" to the chord you play and the note you're singing and accurately chooses the harmonies. Even if you're fingerpicking some crazy chords and your guitar is in an altered tuning. Just remember to use the onboard tuner! For solo singer/songwriters this little pedal is a godsend. Programmable harmonies (2 per song unless you want to tapdance) mean that you can really lift a big, sing-a-long chorus into something special. Plus there's nothing quite as satisfying as seeing a whole room full of jaws dropping the first time you use it. Pretty soon everyone will have one and the novelty will wear off but, in the meantime, go see the videos on YouTube, then go buy one and enjoy.

The TC Electronics harmony G pedal. This is what singers have been waiting for. An intelligent harmony machine that adds higher and lower harmonies that stay in tune. It works out the notes in the scale from the guitar. Firstly, you must make sure your guitar is in tune with the onboard tuner. Then strum a chord and sing. I started with oos and ahs. Instant Queen in a box. I spent two hours familiarising myself with the presets. Running through some of my set, to see which settings to use on what songs. Then I gigged it. It's that simple. If you're an electric player (lke me) I put the box in my pedal board, took a direct out from my tuner (which I left in for now) plugged into the Harmony G, plugged my mike in and then through to the desk. Turned the guitar volume (on the pedal) down , so the dry guitar sound didn't come though and hey presto. Perfect. If you play acoustic, you can plug into the pedal and then through to the desk. You can add FX to both the voce and guitar. There's an auto mix setting to keep things balanced too. (which you can tune out using the mix knob) If you play in drop tunings and detune half a step you can programme the Harmony G to react accordingly. My biggest tip. Get your guitar in tune with the onboard tuner. I didn't at first and couldn't work anything out. When I retuned, BAM. Incredible. I will admit that I was scepticle about this pedal. I thought it would be just about average. Maybe it would sound a bit Mickey Mouse. I was so wrong. It's the best enhancement to singing ever.

I have been a muso for 45 years and know most gear back to front- much of it courtesy of Andertons and their supremely helpful service. This particular piece of equipment is the best I have ever bought . Quite simply when I plugged it in I did not believe my ears. Songs I had written years ago came alive in the very way I had originally intended, with superb harmonies that exactly tracked my voice. Thank you TC Helicon and thank you Andertons for making this outstanding piece of kit so affordable! Neil Griffin

Great sounding, easy to use product that does what it says it will. Great for acoustic solo/duo or full band with electric guitar. great reverb, presets and effects for both guitar and vocals. accurate tuner for guitar. compact size fits nicely on my pedalboard. 10 out of 10
